Bob Gillpatrick founded Gillpatrick Woodworks in 2003. For over twenty years, the company has built some of the most demanding custom woodworking projects in the Kansas City region: kitchens, commercial interiors, millwork, furniture. The common thread: work that holds up, structurally and aesthetically, for decades.
Rooted is what happens when that level of craft meets a single, extraordinary piece of wood.

In 2025, Bob flew to Costa Rica. Not to vacation. To stand in front of trees. To look at slabs cut from sustainably harvested hardwoods and decide, one by one, which ones were worth bringing home. He spent days doing this. Reading grain. Evaluating figure. Imagining what each piece could become.
That's not how most live edge tables come to market. Most are bought by importers who never see the wood. At Rooted, the story starts with the person who chose it.

Ten species, hand-selected in Costa Rica by our owner. Sustainably and ethically harvested. Combined with curated domestic species from trusted local mills. Every slab individually photographed, described, and priced, available online or in person at our shop.
We carry species no other regional supplier stocks at this scale, including Parota and Monkey Pod, two of the most dramatic and sought-after slab species in the world. What you'll find here, you won't find anywhere else in Kansas City.
